Thank you for all the generous donations to YiBazi. We were blessed with our audits and professional works; we had little time to spend on online reading. We had since, stop taking in request for reading via email. We found that it is too taxing to response in writing. 

A Samaritan’s word, “…It is also not feasible for you to explain this in laymen terms for my easy understanding and even if you do, it might take pages and pages of emails.”, sums up our predicament regarding online reading. Most who wrote to us for consultations are enthusiast of BaZi. Therefore, a layman response may not be satisfactory without explaining how a conclusion is arrived at. This is almost like writing a book. 

I am personally, humbled to have met many well versed BaZi fans and friends. Thank you for your continuous supports and donations. 

For such, I take this opportunity to discuss a chart of a notable author of FengShui books, which is easily available, to discuss a simple and largely misunderstood topic – using a missing element.

This is technically a fake follower chart. There are only 2 elements in the chart, Water and Fire. If we only use the favorable gods, it means to say we have very little useful god to play with. The structure of the chart reveals the inclination towards greed. In the chart there is no wood to arbitrate. Luckily, entering JiaChen luck pillar, he is seen to have been writing a lot of books, public speeches and so forth. He is using output, which is not in his natal chart, to his advantages. It is not very surprising if you found the contents of his writing is of shallow and many are repeated contents. This has to stem from the overwhelming wealth structure that Gui person follows. Preparing for the arrival of GuiMao, a large tendency is he is diversifying into properties, with a farewell bid of early-retirement from the center stage – a reason for his student to write book on his behalves. This is one good example of how to use the element that is missing in the natal chart to one’s advantages.

Received a call from BingBazi (Yes, his blog may have been dead but his interest in BaZi is ever burning) reminded me that I may have overlooked something on the rules of a follower chart. That is the end of season, the day cannot follow. Reason, there is still residue of Qi strengthening the Self. However, there is still a catch. Master Ng, was cheekily telling me, just put up a postscript and say, Even though technically this chart looks like a follower chart, it cannot be a follower upon ONE very important factor - Chen month. The end of spring, wood Qi still has its root and Yi wood cannot follow... However, is this really a Chen month we are talking about? Is it really an end of spring we are talking about?

Well, he continues by saying, if you look at the structure of people born in the Wealth Month, assuming Chen is an Earth month, the classics assumed that he (strong daymaster) will bring good tiding for his dad in terms of prosperity. His biography recorded that he is liked Osama, was born into a rich family. Someone translated from the French, Dominique Strauss-Kahn Andre Gaston is the son of Gilbert Strauss-Kahn, legal and tax adviser and member of the Grand Orient of France, and Jacqueline Fellus, journalist of Russian descent and Tunisia. Born into a Jewish family who settled in Morocco in 1951, he grew up in Agadir. He finally left Morocco following the earthquake of Agadir in 1960, to Monaco. Now, how do you wish to read this chart? Weak or too weak that it becomes Strong? Perhaps, rewrite the classic? Master Ng will discuss more in the workshop.

My good buddy referred me to a English Forum of Chinese Metaphysics where the same chart was discussed, although I may not able to read the hidden texts. The lists go on to discussed on the loopholes up to 5 pages or more with many things contributed, sentiment thrown as though some master is going to be crucified and among others: -

1. First were the loopholes such as XinSi hour instead of BingXu. One forummer suggested that the hour of 11:10am in France. The True Solar Time is XinSi instead of RenWu. If it is RenWu, needless to say, it is a weak chart. His entire biography would have to be rewritten. Whereas XinSi, would have given a better matching to his biography, especially a follower chart. Now, if you read a possible Si You and Chou combination to metal, which is his “unfavorable” officer, you are able to gauge the possibility of a ploy to bring him down. The question is, will it be successful?

2. Fire as the useful gods. In many schools useful gods is always equals to favorable gods. However, we beg to differ. Unfavorable gods may also be of use. The question is how? Now assuming Fire as the useful gods in reflection to the day the incident happens, XinMao year, GuiSi month JiSi day and GengWu hour, where summer is only one component to the entire chart, it is not even strong enough to save the day. Thus, unlikely to strike out Fire as his favorable element. Any serious BaZi practitioner should also understand that singled out a season itself is not prudence where the entire day is affected by all the 4 pillars and not one. Therefore, the question of Is Output and Wealth star desirable remains certained for a follower chart even if the day and month when the incident happens are of fire Qi on reason that the day Qi must be read in totality.

3. The effect of Luck Pillar (LP) changing the basic characteristic of the strength of the chart. There are many schools of thoughts on this matter. However, the basic principle is, you cannot play football with changing goal posts. The correct explanation is the strength of the chart remains, however because of its lopsidedness, the incurred LP will make the chart off balance. What may seems to be favorable will unlikely to be so. However, if one is able to use the unfavorable elements to one's advantage, it may also save your day. That is why it is also a useful god. However the question remains is how? It may appears that some blog writer may not necessary explain such and that doesn't mean he/she is not aware of it. However, a chart cannot simply sometimes follow sometimes don't.

4. I appreciate the fact that the critiques from the forum does make an attempt to explain why Yi daymaster in Chen month cannot follow. I must agree to his postulation which sound, Wood born in end of Spring Chen month has Gui Water and Yi Wood Qi from remaining Mao Month and they remains even as graveyard and storage. Those from the Dominant Qi theory school may also agree on this unless if the daymaster is born in other seasons like Summer or Autumn Earth Month. In which case, one has to look into the hidden stems to qualify further. Therefore, Yi daymaster born in Chen month or Gui daymaster born in Chou and so forth cannot follow. However, only those who understand the nature of 1 in the branch is better then 3 in the stem theory would understand that there is exception to the rules. It is not secret, is just a different school of thought unlikely to be new age as well.

In summary, it is a good discussion and gutsy challenge with regards to investigating a real life case. As I am not granted access to the forum and mainly depends on feedback from my buddy, it will just be good for me to contribute my thought here meanwhile my view in this matter, as always, is subject to be corrected. As I congratulating both Singapore's BaZi practitioners of sparring in a gentlemen way, my view may have indirectly giving hints of so called "secret" techniques which is no longer a secret, as according to Master Ng and many forummers alike. There are just more layers in the chart worth investigating and I leave it to Master Ng to peel open in the coming workshop.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn SeX-capes

Classic example of Following Wealth where there is Money, there is HIM, befitting an IMF chief. However, it is not money that brings him fame but women. Othordox Chinese Worldview, woman equals wealth - a commodity. Since Wealth is favorable, why would he engross with Sexual Assault?

Common lead is XinMao annual pillar, triggering FanYin? One contributory factor as many follower charts alike, it is lopsided. His solid water pillar luck is not over as yet. Career Palace sees Heaven and Earth combines, seeking comfort in the expanse of his action where his peach blossom clashing outward as some may called it being "horny" and the nature of FanYin, his sudden impulse to seek sexual comfort has affected him, being in the position of power, he is caught with the pants down. There is always the harm effect between his desire and his action.

Question, how to derive such? 

1. Would a combination to resource taken place?

2. If resource transformed, why it happens?

3. What will be the nature of this chart meeting resource?

4. Would a combination to output also taken place?

5. Why would output be negative in a follower chart?

6. What is the harm signify?

7. What it means by spouse palace clashing out peach blossom?

8. Is his officer noblemen or ghost?

9. Others…

One of the challenges of reading BaZi is the ability to peel opens the chart and to look at it in many angles. Technicality on the rules of transformation and so forth is only one dimensional. As Master Ng common advice, if you do not strip naked the chart, you see nothing…

Cheering for Obama, Weeping for Osama

An ardent fan requesting a commentary on Osama’s Chart. Googled to locate his time of birth, with varying results from Mao hour to Si hour. I believed Mao is taken after some acrobatic effort to align it back to Beijing’s time (GMT+8). Then again, do one necessary realigned back the hour pillar to Beijing’s time? Joint our up and coming workshop and Master Ng will share with you the intricacies of such practices. 

Let’s just sideline the hour pillar for a moment and observed the Day and the month branch. Xin metal born in the Mao month, middle of spring. Metal controls wood, therefore, it is said to be born in the wealth month. Classical analogy prescribed that the day master born in the wealth month is rich for both parent and child. Osama’s biography in the Wikipedia stipulated he was born into a rich Arab family of Ben Laden. So, in order for such to happen, he must inherit a strong chart in order to be wealthy. You need the wealth of an empire to support an establishment such as the Al-Qaeda. 

Fall back to the trinity theory of in Season, Location and Formation, season is unsupportive and the stem does not fall within reach to strengthen the Day master. A large probability that Osama’s chart is a weak Xin day master. So, where has the interpretation of the classic gone so very wrong that a weak day master born in the wealth month means his parent is going to be bankrupt the moment he is born? Master Ng will able to tell you why?

Next, assumed that Mao hour is correct. We will see 2 FuYin, which is a technical term in BaZi sometimes known as Hidden Siren. If such structure compatible with the house AiXing structure one is living in it, then a possible death event may occur and the remaining question is who? Otherwise, such “Crying Event”, which happen when one is cheering for Obama and weeping for Osama, is entirely different. Noticeable treat, first and the last line of defense is completely null, leaving the Day master vulnerable for attack. Do you see FuYin beyond just crying event? Better, go ask Master Ng.

Something About Oprah ... Her Strength Of The Chart

It is a puzzle sometimes, as how would the strength of the chart be determined. Look at Oprah's chart for example, where the in season, location and formations are pre-determined: -

1. Yi born in Chou (Earth) month. 
2. Winter, water is strong, so it is in season. 
3. When the season is supporting, it is a strong chart (One school's interpretation)
4. Her useful elements shall then be metal, fire and earth.

However, another school beg to differ and their arguments are: -

1. Si You and Chou form a metal structure.
2. Therefore not supporting the Self element.
3. Then the next qualifying round is in location and in formation.
4. Not supported by the branch, but supported by the stem.
5. So, it is a weak chart.
6. Her useful elements shall then be wood and water.

So, here is the interesting part, which is which, Huh?

Oprah Winfrey has risen from poverty and a troubled youth to become the most powerful and influential woman in television and, according to Forbes Magazine, the world's most highly paid entertainer. Though primarily recognized as a talk show hostess, Winfrey also occasionally acts in television movies and feature films. 

Winfrey's parents were teens when she was born in rural Mississippi and never married. She was originally named Orpah after a woman from the "Book of Ruth" but a spelling mistake on the birth certificate changed it to Oprah. She spent her childhood growing up in abject poverty on her deeply religious grandmother's farm. When she was older, Winfrey moved in with her mother in Milwaukee, WI. This proved a difficult time as Winfrey alleges she was repeatedly sexually molested by male relatives. Winfrey became a bit of a wild child during her early teens, experimenting with sex and drugs until at age 14 she gave birth to a premature baby. It died shortly after, and upon recovering, Winfrey chose to live with her father in Nashville. It was under his stern guidance, that Winfrey found discipline, stability and the inspiration to excel in school and change her life. 

When she was 19, Winfrey became a part-time radio reporter for station WVOL, Nashville and also began studying speech and performing arts at Tennessee State University. She dropped out in 1972 during her sophomore year to become an Anchor at Nashville's WTVF-TV. She was the first black woman to hold that position. In 1976, she moved to WJZ-TV and after a stint as a reporter was promoted to co-anchor. Two years after her arrival, Winfrey was slotted (with some trepidation by producers who weren't sure how audiences would respond to a host who was neither white nor thin) to host their talk show People Are Talking. Their worries were unfounded for the charming, empathetic Winfrey's show was a hit and remained so for eight years. 

In 1984, Winfrey took a major risk and accepted a job hosting a Chicago morning talk show, one that aired at the same time as the nationally top-rated, Chicago-based Phil Donahue talk show. This time it was her fears that had no basis for soon she found herself neck and neck in the ratings with Donahue. Her show, too went nationwide through King World Syndicate and as she expanded the operation, the money began rolling in and with the purchase of a large downtown production facility, was able to become the third woman in the American entertainment industry--after Mary Pickford and Lucille Ball-- to own her own studio. She named it Harpo, which is of course, Oprah spelled backwards. Using her considerable business acumen, Winfrey translated her show into a multi-million dollar business, making her the wealthiest black woman in the US. 

Her show was ground-breaking for several reasons, but most of all because Oprah was unafraid to bare her soul and her own past experiences in front of audiences whereas most talk show hosts remained reserved in regards to their personal lives. Though it was difficult, she made public her past abuse, her drug problem during her '20s and her struggle with obesity. In this latter area, Oprah, who is beautiful no matter what size she is, took a lot of heat from unkind critics who were unable to cope with the notion that a round woman could possibly be considered attractive, intelligent and vital. She endured cruel jokes and jibes until she finally decided to lose weight, first with a radical liquid diet-- which only temporarily took off her weight-- and then with a rigorous fat-free diet and exercise regimen that has kept her weight off. 

Like Donahue and the other talk show hosts of the day, Winfrey's program tended towards sensationalism designed to appeal to our most morbid curiosities. Subject-wise, she had begun hitting all time lows by 1994. That year, she was to turn 40 and was thinking heavily about which direction her life might turn, both professionally and personally. There was a question whether or not she would even continue taping the show. She ultimately decided to stay on the air, but only after publicly promising to move her show to a higher, more uplifting level.
I addition to her reign as "Queen of the daytime talk shows," Winfrey has also proven herself a gifted actress, winning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress with her film debut as Sofia in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple (1985). In 1989, she executive-produced and starred in Donna Deitch's acclaimed television movie The Women of Brewster Place which later became a short-lived series. Winfrey is actively involved in producing high-quality television movies. Her 1997 drama Before Women Had Wings provides an excellent example of the level to which she aspires. On television, Winfrey has also launched a book club in which she endorses novels written by lesser known authors. As proof of her influence, most of the books she has chosen end up best-sellers. 

Winfrey's commitment towards making the world a better place is backed up by her generosity. Each year she donates millions to several charities, including her own Family for Better Lives foundation and Tennessee State University. She is actively involved in lobbying for children's rights and in 1994 was present when President Clinton signed her proposed bill to create a national database of convicted child abusers. -- Sandra Brennan
